Which One is Right for You?
While both products offer the best protection available under your play set, NuPlay offers a firmer surface capable of slightly higher fall heights, while Rubberific Mulch offers a softer cushion for toddlers and small children.
Safety and Installation
There are a number of different surface materials that can be used to make a playground safer. However, it is not just the product, but how the product is installed that protects against falls.
The amount of surfacing product you should install is related to the maxiumum height your child might fall from and which product you use.
- 9" of Certified Playground Mix will protect up to a 7 ft fall.
- 6" of Rubberific will protect up to a 10 ft fall.
- 6" of NuPlay will protect up to a 13 ft fall.
The ground area where the playground is to be located should either not hold water, or have a slight grade to allow for proper drainage. In areas where drainage might be an issue, it is recommended to install a drain tile system with a 3” base of pea gravel or rock to allow for proper drainage.
Heavy duty weed fabric should be installed underneath Rubberific and NuPlay to separate them from what lies underneath.
A border is recommended to enclose the playground and contain the surfacing material. This border should rise a few inches above the top of the surface material.
The Certified Playground Mix is a natural product and will compact and break down over time. The recommended height should be maintained with additional product as needed.
